ALIAS - Article License Information Availability Service
OCLC's News Release: Development of a Network-Level Solution for Unmediated Article Resource Sharing
Working with Atlas Systems, the IDS Project has developed a service that allows ILLiad to perform unmediated article request processing using the Article License Information Availability Service. ALIAS is able to construct a lender string and send article requests straight to OCLC. Like Direct Request, this can free up an average of 10 to 20 hours of processing time and decreases the turnaround time for article requests—especially since ALIAS promotes electronic over print holdings. Unlike OCLC’s Direct Request, ALIAS also performs load leveling.
For more information, please see the Alias Presentation from the 2009 OCLC ILLiad Conference. Speakers' notes are included so you will need to save the presentation to your desktop and then run it.
Currently 61 IDS Project member libraries have ALIAS installed and running.
